Synology PSU Kit Explained: SFX Power Supply for Synology 2U NAS

This short video explains why some Synology rackmount NAS units can't simply take a new standard PS2 power supply, and how our Synology PSU kit solves the problem.

Most Synology NAS units can use a standard ATX power supply, but some slim 2U rack models can't. The original Synology PSU is expensive and no longer made, and the newest PS2 power supplies have a 12cm fan on top that sits right under the lid of a 2U case, with no room to breathe. The kit converts any standard SFX power supply into a PS2-format unit: the metal adaptor bracket fits the standard PS2 screw holes, and the 20-pin Synology adaptor cable (UL1007 18AWG, 22cm) plugs into 2x Molex and 1x SATA on your SFX supply. SFX units use a compact 8cm fan, so the clearance problem disappears. Mounting screws are included; the power supply is not, so you can choose the SFX unit that suits your system.

The kit fits the Synology RS2416+, RX1217, DS2411+, DX1211, DS3612xs and DS3611xs, as well as the RS3618xs, RS2423+, RS2421+, RS2418+ and other Synology rack models.
